Occasional and Unusual chairs

Some chairs just defy classification and at Needle Rock we’ve seen many examples of the unusual. In the late 1950’s, Jacobsen designed the egg-chair, and although the originals are highly sought after, there’s plenty of egg-style lookalikes for more affordable budgets. Will you be lucky enough to pick up a Jacobsen-style chair to inject modernist cool into your living room and channel vibes with a retro swivel egg armchair? At Needle Rock, we’ve been lucky enough to acquire two of these, so if this is for you, give us a shout!

Another chair manufacturer from mid 20th Century that’s come right back on trend is Ercol. With trademark spindles, and often with fastening seat pads, they are iconic. Recently, Ali refurbished a light elm chair with an antique Welsh carthen (blanket), and the result was stunning.

There are too many chair styles to mention them all, but the ‘kissing chair’ is of one Ali’s long-time favourites. In this form, two matching chairs can either stand alone, or be fitted together into various forms. What an inventive design, and we are yet to find another one like it!

Through The Workshop Door - October 2019

The trees are starting to lose their leaves, and it’s time for us to let go of summer 2019. It’s been avery busy season; with the relocation of Needle Rock to the new workshop, building thesummerhouse to store the rolls of fabric, and moving equipment around to get the most out of thenew working space. Unbelievably, the new workspace is now rather full, but as the old saying goes,‘nature abhors a vacuum’.With the days becoming shorter, the nights getting longer, and the weather on the whole, like a boxof Liquorice Allsorts - warm and sunny one minute; dark and cloudy the next - autumn is suddenlyupon us. I’ve been very fortunate in acquiring some luxury deep-red woollen carpet which, with thehelp of hubby, we fitted in the main work area of the workshop last weekend, along with some thicklined curtains which are now hanging at the windows. The workshop now has a very regal and sumptuous feel to it, which in turn should help to keep me nice and warm during the run up to Christmas (oh no I’ve said the ‘C’ word)!

"Needle Rock is a fantastic business and Ali is brilliant. We are currently refurbishing a building into a farm shop and restaurant. Ali has worked with us to reupholster a set of old chairs. From our first phone call through to the delivery today Ali has been on hand throughout, giving great advice and really getting what our vision is for the furniture. The finished seats arrived today and we are absolutely delighted with them - they look fantastic and the work is superb. Thank you Ali - we are over the moon".
